Recycled content you can prove: documents, not slogans
Plenty of suppliers say “eco”. Few say how much, of what, and according to whom. This page sets out what recycled felt does and does not do, what we can document, and how to word it so you stay out of trouble.
We do not use our own eco badge, and we do not use “eco-friendly” or “green” as selling points. EU rules are moving against those words, and buyers no longer trust them.
What we can and cannot say
What we can say
The recycled share by weight of a specific material or product, when the documents show it; the certificate number and its scope; the factory’s country and the transport mode.
What we cannot say
“Saves the ocean” or “climate neutral”; “recyclable” where no collection exists; “biodegradable”; comparisons with other materials without an equal basis and a disclosed method.
What we say openly
Most of our products are made in Asia, then shipped to Europe. Recycled felt is still polyester, and the most important factor is often how long the product is used.
Documents you can ask for
Availability depends on the product and factory. We confirm it in the offer, before you pay, and we do not sell a product as recycled without evidence.
| Document | What it shows | What it does not show |
|---|---|---|
| GRS or RCS scope certificate | The site is certified under the standard for named products | That your batch contains recycled fibre |
| Transaction certificate (TC) | Certified material passed to the next party, with lots and weights | Environmental impact of the product |
| OEKO-TEX Standard 100 | The tested material meets limits for harmful substances | Anything about recycled content |
| Composition declaration | What the fibre mix is, per the manufacturer | Independent verification, unless tested |
| EPD (where it exists) | Life-cycle data by a set method | That the product is better than another |
| ISO 354, EN 13501-1 reports | Acoustic and fire results in the tested setup | Results for another thickness or mounting |
| Inspection report | Findings of the pre-shipment check | Chemical or recycled content |
How to word your own claims
Examples only. Use real numbers from your documents, and have a lawyer check what you print.

Directive (EU) 2024/825 has applied since 27 September 2026 and bans generic environmental claims to consumers without recognised excellent performance. For business buyers, Directive 2006/114/EC on misleading advertising applies, and courts can require proof. Your customers’ consumers may read your claim too. This is general information, not legal advice.
Before you publish a claim
- Does the claim say which part of the product it covers?
- Is the percentage by weight, and of what?
- Is there a document for this batch, not only a factory certificate?
- Would the claim still be true for a reorder from another factory?
- Are you presenting a legal duty, such as REACH, as an advantage? Do not.
- Does your image add a green message that the text cannot support?

Frequently asked questions
Is “eco” banned in B2B?
The ban in Directive 2024/825 applies to consumers. In B2B, rules on misleading advertising apply, and some countries extend protections, so we apply the stricter standard across the site.
What is the Green Claims Directive?
A proposal for pre-approval of green claims. It has not become law: it has been stalled since 2025. Directive 2024/825 does apply.
Do you offset emissions?
No. And we do not recommend neutrality claims based on offsets, which are banned for consumer products.
Can I use the GRS logo?
Only as the scheme’s rules allow, and generally only with a licensed chain of custody. We check case by case.
