What to specify
- Fibre: polyester, recycled PET share, wool or blend.
- Weight in g/m² and tolerance, not only thickness.
- Thickness and tolerance.
- Width of the roll and length per roll, or sheet size.
- Colour: a reference sample or code, especially for melange greys.
- Finish: soft or hardened, adhesive backing, flame retardancy if required.
Rolls, sheets or cut parts
Rolls are cheapest per square metre. Sheets are easier to handle in a workshop. Die-cut or CNC-cut parts save waste and labour if the shape repeats.
Minimums
Stock colours can sometimes be bought by the roll. Colours dyed to order have mill minimums, often several hundred square metres.
Check a lot sample
Recycled fibre can vary slightly in colour and density between lots. Approve a lot sample before a large order. See felt rolls and sheets.
