Is felt a plastic?
Polyester felt, including recycled PET felt, is made of a synthetic polymer, so it is a plastic textile. Wool felt is an animal fibre.
Can it be recycled?
Technically, clean single-material polyester felt can be shredded and re-processed, and some mills take back their own offcuts. In practice, few collection systems accept used felt products, and print, glue, zips and leather-look patches make recycling harder.
Why “recyclable” is a risky claim
Under EU consumer rules that apply from September 2026, environmental claims must be specific and backed by evidence. A “recyclable” claim only makes sense where collection and recycling actually exist for that product.
What helps more
- Make products people keep using for years.
- Use one material where possible.
- Choose removable labels over glued patches.
- Document recycled content honestly.
